Organic rock salt or Kanwa
Organic rock salt is a fossil salt that is extracted from mines. The seas that dried up millions of years ago have left this treasure behind over the centuries. It is a 100% natural mineral compound and very rich in sodium chloride. This variety varies depending on the deposit.
The properties of salt preservatives are well known. But we use salt first for its flavor. When cooking, of course, but also when baking to improve the taste of sugar, chocolate or vanilla.
In cooking, rock salt, also known as “Kanwa”, is used to tenderize foods that are difficult to cook. Whether it is about cooking beans or koki, washing and preserving Ndolè or village vegetables, rock salt is the grandmothers’ secret. Kanwan thus helps to reduce the gas caused by these foods.
Kanwa is very effective for certain skin conditions such as scabs or itching. Gently scrape the affected area and apply a paste of rock salt with water.
